Richmond, VA—The highly-anticipated 10th anniversary edition of Punch Rare Corojo is about to be made even more exciting with the release of a new, limited edition frontmark which will debut at tobacconists nationwide beginning in late March.

Called Rare Corojo 10th Anniversary, the 5” x 50 frontmark is unique in that it will feature a proprietary Connecticut Corojo wrapper. The new cigar will begin selling in late March for a suggested retail price of $6.50 per cigar until the limited supply is depleted. The cigars will be packed in eye catching cabinet style red wooden boxes and can be easily identified by a secondary red-and-gold band that bears the Rare Corojo distinction.

In a seemingly new push from General Cigars, quite a few new mergers and cigar blends have hit the shelves, one of these new additions is the Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros which is spanish for ‘rested in cedar’ which you will see is a major overlying theme. A new process General Cigars has created is ‘inmersion’ which they have quoted saying in a press release -

“Just as fine wines and spirits are aged in wooden barrels to round out their taste, cigars that mature in cedar-lined aging rooms are known for smooth, balanced flavor, In taking this time-honored tradition to a new level, General Cigar’s Honduran team created Hoyo de Monterrey Reposado en Cedros, the company’s first collection to be created using an innovative new process called ‘Inmersión.’”

Can you believe it, another cigar by Don Pepin Garcia, this time with the backing of Eddie Ortega & Erik Espinosa! This is another review that I meant to complete months ago, but as things go – I’m slacking. If you have not been able to guess by the cigar band or by the other reviews out there, Murcielago means ‘Bat’ in spanish – some speculate as well that the darkness of the creature coincide with extremely dark maduro wrapper.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you will know a bit more about the underlying reality of who the ‘Nut’ is, not only because I have a tendency to remove the filter in this 140 character world, but I like to bounce ideas I have on certain things off others and get their input. I have been kicking around a few ideas to ‘break up the monotony’ around here and figured why not open a piece of my own personal passion (obsession is overused and just carries this negative connotation) of what I normally read into when I’m smoking cigars and give you a mental money shot from the Nut – so to speak.

Happy St. Patrick day to you all!  Today I will review the Gurka Ninja XO.  Here are the stats:

Cigar: Gurkha Ninja XO (cost: $6.00)
Size: 6×60

Wrapper: Brazilian Maduro

Binder: Dominican
Filler:   Nicaraguan

Strength: Medium

This large, dark cigar has a very pleasant cold draw with notes of hay and coffee.  With the V-cut, I did loose part of the cap but it was not a total loss. 

The initial flavor is full of coffee and cocoa.  The draw is wide open and the hay is still present.  After about an inch, the ash fell off in my lap.  This is kind of disappointing for a large cigar.
