The Cigar Nut

Where The Hell Have You Been?!

Yeah – yeah – yeah . . . April was not what I would consider a ‘hot’ month for the site. Myself, I had a 10 day vacation so I mentally had checked out for about 2 weeks – not the most effective way to get reviews done right! I did some work on my car, spent time with the wife and got hooked on the silver market. Thats the main thing – I figured out that silver can be very lucrative – but it was starting to become a ‘job’ so fuck that, I had a good run – but now back to the important things in life.

The Cigar Nut

Diesel Shorty

Size: 4.5 x 60
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder and Filler: Jalapa, Condega, and Esteli Regions
Strength: Roughly $5.00 a piece
Price: High Medium to Full

Behind The Stick:

This cigar is the child of not only AJ Fernandez (personally I feel he is a fantastic cigar maker who is starting to make quite the name for himself) but also TV personality Shorty Rossi (star of Pit Boss on Animal Planet). Although some feel this cigar was inspired by the NUB cigar line since it follows nearly directly with their vitola sizes – truth have it though these cigars were actually created by Shorty Rossi and AJ Fernandez in an attempt to find a daily smoke for Shorty himself – blend and vitola included.

The Cigar Nut

Today I will be reviewing the Nording by Rocky Patel.  This is a special addition cigar produced to honor pipe maker Erik Nording.

Here are the stats:

Origin : Honduras
Size Name : Toro Grande
Size : 6 x 58
Wrapper : Costa Rican Maduro
Binder : Mexican
Filler : Honduran / Nicaraguan

Cost:  $90.00/ 20

This large cigar had a very earthy smell and taste on cold draw.  After toasting the foot and taking the first puffs, there is a very creamy flavor.  There is also a slight hint of spice on the front end of the cigar.

The Cigar Nut

Size: 5 x 50
Wrapper:Nicaraguan Corojo 99
Binder and Filler: Nicaraguan and Connecticut Habano
Strength: High Medium to Low Full
Price: Give or take $10.00

Behind The Stick:

I got these smokes from @General_griff on twitter and I can not begin to say thank you enough! I am sure by now we have all heard or been able to smoke the Illusione Nosotros so I will not bore you with the details of how it was created by Dion of Illusione cigars and Johnathan from Drew Estate cigars or that this project is a derail from the norm of small ring gauges for Dion, going into 46 to 60 size rings. Without giving away too much, lets get on with the review.

The Cigar Nut

Many of you will see that this month I just have not been posting as much as I normally do – well, I am on vacation and I’ve been a complete slacker with the site. I have a few things up my sleeve so check back in a few days. I leave you with this.

The Cigar Nut

Size: 7 1/4″ x 57
Wrapper: Habano Ecuador
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Price: ~$18.00

Behind the Stick: With the recent Tatuaje RC233 review, you know the info behind the its little brother, the RC184. So, instead of reiterating what you’ve already read, here’s the the info behind this specific cigar. After smoking the RC233 a few weeks ago, I foolishly stated my desire to try the RC184 in a banter thread on Cigar Asylum. To teach me a lesson in watching what I say, my friend James, bombed me with a few choice sticks, one of which was the RC184. So, thanks to him, here is the review for the Tatuaje RC184!
