The Cigar Nut

Blind Review – #1

Here it is – the first ever Blind Review for The Cigar Nut. All of these cigars started in my posession – my wife picked them out, removed the labels and then I numbered and shipped them to Brian and Eric, so I do have a little bit of an advantage knowing what was in my humidor at the beginning. Please let us know if you like the Blind Reviews ( I know I had fun participating ) and we will be sure to have a few more ready to go soon!

Appearance and construction: Beautifully dark stick, appears to be a lancero, pig-tailed cap. Once lit the ash is a very stark white and holds nicely to about an inch. Draw was perfect.

Flavors: Pre-draw brings very light hints of sweet tobacco and cocoa. After light first few draws bring more sweetness, almost chocolate notes. Very smooth smoke, hints of almonds and cedar accompany the sweetness. About halfway through the flavors are still very consistent, however the sweetness has died down a little bit and the stick is growing in strength. Still like smoking a delicious chocolate bar however! The final third is getting a little bitter. A purge gets rid of some of that, but with all the original wonderful flavors there is an underlying harshness probably attributed to just the nicotine buildup.

Overall: The name of this stick is consistency. From start to finish I was getting the same great sweet, chocolate, and almond notes. Only towards the end was there a little bitterness. I would absolutely buy more of these sticks and smoke them.

CIGAR #1: Pigtail cap – 1 or 2 prominent veins – lancero size – 6 3/4 inches long x 1/2 inch diameter – smells floral at the foot – nice construction – rough chocolate brown wrapper – cuts cleanly with double blade – cold draw still floral & slightly herbal – lights easily & evenly – first flavours are toast, light pepper, dry herbal notes – white ash – smoke plenty & dries out the mouth – smells lightly floral – even burn & strong ash – light caramel hints – 1 inch in a nice sweetness like cinnamon cereal starts – fantastic sharp burn line – lots of creamy smoke – retrohale offers nice tingle of spice almost makes me think of the nose on good scotch lol – ENJOYABLE – midway a warm coco flavour arrives – scotch essences through the sinus – warm coco flavours strong at mid point – flavours remain consistent through second half.

Gotta say, this thing looks great! Obviously this is a well made lancero – little to no give throughout with only the slightest bit of give at the end. The band was alredy removed so I can’t comment on my pet peeve, but it did give me a chance to stop and smell this cigar from head to foot a few times. This is one sweet smoke – right out the gate this cigar provides a healthy dose of nuts and cedar with that ‘sweet tang’ that hung around waiting for me to lick my lips. The last third gave way from sweet to mild-bitter with a dash of chocolate and leather for good measure. I did notice that near the end of this cigars life, the tar was building up decently enough to have me put it out with about a half an inch to an inch left, but aside from that one nice performance. As Brian said, this is a ‘consistant’ smoke – not quite linear but nothing screamed ‘wow’ when I smoked it. Linear is not bad, but depending on what this smoke is and the price tag associated, it could be the determining factor of ‘buy a box’ or ‘buy a 5 pack’.

Brian’s Guess: La Aurora 107 Lancero
Eric’s Guess: Unknown
David’s Guess: Tatuaje Black Petite Lancero

What do you think the cigar is!? It will be revealed on Sunday! Leave a comment with your guess and all the correct answers will be entered into a random drawing for 5 free smokes!

Seems to be shorter than most lanceros.
I’m going to have to go with the La Aurora 107 Lancero, it’s the closest to the measured size and appearance.

I would also lean towards the la Aurora, but only because you sent me one before and i bet you have more. I was thinking triunfador too, the word “consistency” and “pig tail” sparked that thought

Tatuaje NHC Seleccion Limitada Reserva Lancero

Pretty limited release so I should have gone the tat black route but what the hell :)

The wrapper looks darker than the 107 I had and it looks to be a great wrap. David, I’ma go wit you, Tat black.

I’m also going to guess the La Aurora 107 lancero. The tat BPL had a nipple on the or and a smooth cap on the reg release.

From the flavour profile I would guess La Aurora 107 Lancero.
