Hey everyone! I hope you are prepared for a great week! I wanted to write to inform you of a community you may not know exists.

About 5 years ago, I began to get interested in the hobby of pipe smoking. I had know idea how or what to do. So, I went to YouTube. What I found was more than I expected!

As I watched video after video, I realized that there is a huge community of cigar and pipe smokers who connect through YouTube. There are contest, tobacco trades, video reviews and recently an emergence of “meet ups” where people from all over gather at tobacconist and meet face to face. At Christmas, one of the “youtubers” puts on a “Secret Santa” where members send gifts to each other. This year they had over 100 participants.

So, if you are not a part of the YouTube community, get an account and subscribe to my channel (www.youtube.com/smokeoffering). Once you do that, you will be able to find other Brothers/Sister of the Leaf/Briar and join a diverse, fun, rewarding group!

See you there!

The Cigar Nut

Can you believe it – another year notched onto the belt, successes, failures and everything in between. I think it is safe to say that the Mayans were wrong this year and thank goodness because I have way too many cigars to smoke and not enough time! I hope you all are able to reflect back on 2012 and at least say “you know, I got that 51% good shit, I’m alright”. If we can all find that 51% – you can smile, open the bottle and enjoy that special cigar with every breath.

I am not going to be another site putting out the ‘best cigars of 2012′ list or talking about predictions for next years smokes or hell, even giving you a ‘heads up’ on what to expect next year. I have a better idea, tell me what you would like to see going on at The Cigar Nut in 2013 and I will try my best to make it happen ( within reason ).

The Cigar Nut

Can you believe that 2012 is almost over? I assume this would be the proper time to sit back and reflect on the positives, negatives and everything in between that we have all gone through over the past 12 months. This year has been one of those record breaking years – in my opinion – when it comes to new cigar companies, new blends and entirely new additions to portfolios. Many of the manufacturers have really embraced the online cigar community and have hosted contests, travel destinations and even donated ‘handsomely’ to many troops. One of my personal ‘favorite’ things about this year is that it seems that the smaller companies are really getting good exposure and producing exceptional cigars. No longer is the world of cigars produced by the select few ‘big’ companies – Cuban descendents and gringos alike now produce some of our favorite cigars.

The Cigar Nut

Another year passes and another notch on the proverbial belt is added. It seems almost fitting that on our birthdays, we all take a moment or two and reflect on our past, present and future. How did we get here, where are we going and where did we fuck up in the past 12 months! Luckily this past year has been a great time and I really don’t have any negatives worth mentioning – all in all a good thing!

The Cigar Nut

Cigar smokers are becoming a rare species in many casinos, even in the gambling Mecca of the world that is Las Vegas. With more and more casinos reducing the areas in which smoking is allowed (and a few hinting at banning smoking entirely on the premises), you’ll need to plan ahead if you’re going to Vegas and expect to enjoy a Montecristo while at the tables.

Hope isn’t entirely lost, though, as currently all major casinos in Vegas still offer at least some smoking areas on the gaming floor. Unlike Internet casinos like partycasino.com, casinos in Las Vegas must walk a fine line of catering to what the majority of their customers want, while not offending or driving others away entirely. Whether or not to allow smoking is one of the biggest questions many casinos face, especially with the current trend in the US of more and more establishments (including bars) going entirely smoke-free.
