The Cigar Nut

October has got to be my favorite month of the year, without question. The weather has gotten cooler making an afternoon or evening cigar that much easier to enjoy, BBQ and firepits start to spark up a bit more often, trips to wineries and breweries ( maybe a Missouri thing ) kick into full gear, Halloween is just around the corner but most importantly – Monday October 10th, 2011 will be my 1 year wedding anniversary – oh yeah, and that Columbus day thing. But – Please help me celebrate my 1 year anniversary by lighting up that special cigar and letting me know about it! As well, since I will be out of town with my wife ( At the time of this posting I should be in the air headed towards Denver Colorado ) so you may get some updates while I am out of town, but cigar reviews as a whole will kick back into gear once I get home from vacation in a week or so.

General Cigar Announces Sherwin Seltzer’s Retirement

Sherwin Seltzer

Richmond, VA—General Cigar announces today that industry veteran Sherwin Seltzer will retire at the end of October, thus concluding a storied career spanning more than half a century in the premium cigar category.

“There comes a time when you have to stop and do something else. I’ve had a great run in this business but at this stage in my life, I want to devote my time to Iris, my wife of 51 years, and my children and grandchildren,” comments Seltzer, who continue to serve as General Cigar’s vice president of trade development until October 31.

The Cigar Nut

Well, its that time of year again – the heat is starting to lift, the days are getting shorter, cigars are being smoked more and more outdoors and an extra touch of whiskey is used to warm the body. I wonder if this time of year gives something back to us for toughing it through the hot summer – I am not sure about others, but for me this is my time to relax, focus on the ‘important things’ at hand and try to wrap up those projects that I may have put on the back burner from March.

The Cigar Nut

I know IPCPR is right around the corner and everyone is going to be watching the coverage and not very interested in seeing normal old reviews so I will be linking to a few other sites on some of the live coverage and sitting at home, wishing and dreaming I was there. I am also on vacation from work next week, so it gives me a chance to knock out a few more reviews and get caught up.

Speaking of catching up – be sure to enter into the Achievements Contest ending Saturday, August 27th 2011. Andy K is leading the pack but there are more than enough Achievements and time for anyone to win! The prizes so far includes about 30 cigars from my personal stash and more than likely will have a few more added here shortly.

Well – short sweet and to the point! Have a great weekend and I’ll get back to you all after IPCPR!

Behind The Stick:

My fault on the massive delay for this review – Smoke Inn had released these smokes in celebration of their 15th anniversary of being in business. Smoke Inn has been a South Florida staple in the cigar world for years, and aside from there excellent customer service, huge selection and good prices they have also been releasing some very exciting and new products to the market under there umbrella. This release in specific though is the Padon 1964-SI which has been produced in a 60 ring gauge, is actually the same blend as normal 1964′s ( natural and maduro ) but that the wrapper to ratio change ( ring gauge ) has created a ‘very unique smoke and taste’. These cigars will be offered in 5 packs and 15 count boxes.

If your into the whats ‘down the road’, Smoke Inn will be releasing 4 different ‘special’ cigars – the Tatuaje Anarchy in 2010, the Padron in early 2011, the My Father El Hijo in summer of 2011 and a Fuente to wrap things up! Without any more of a delay – into the review we go!
